Apache Tears is a specific type of Obsidian found in numerous localities throughout Western United States. Specifically, in Arizona and Nevada.
The legend of how Apache Tears received their name, is an incredibly sad story.
In the 1870s, the US Cavalry fought with 75 people of the Apache Tribe on top of a mountain. Rather than facing defeat and being outnumbered the Apache warriors rode themselves off the cliff of the mountain. When word got back to the families of the warriors their tears hit the ground where their fallen members had died and their tears turned to stone.
Today, Apache Tears hold a special place in the crystal healing world as a stone for grief and recovering from grief.
